چکیده

Abstract Lacydonia Marion & Bobretsky, 1875 is the sole genus in family Lacydoniidae Bergström, 1914. We herein describe new species of shohoensis sp. nov. from 2042-m deep bottoms at Shoho Seamount Nishi-Shichito Ridge, Northwest Pacific Ocean. It most similar to L. anapaulae Rizzo et al ., 2016 having a depression on median anterior region and lacking lateral lobes posterior margin prostomium whereas it distinguished by possessing pygidium dorsally pigmented with three reddish spots non-pigmented pygidial cirri equally elongated.

A new species of Fauveliopsidae (Annelida) from the North Sea

A new species of the genus Laubieriopsis Petersen, 2000 is described based on 28 specimens collected in the north-east part of the North Sea. It is characterized by fixed number of chaetigers (22), paired genital papillae, bidentate neurochaeta of chaetigers 1-4, the absence of acicular chaetae on chaetigers 5-21 and, on the last chaetiger, one acicular and three capillary chaetae enlarged and ...

Six new deep-water sternaspid species (Annelida, Sternaspidae) from the Pacific Ocean

Most sternaspid species have been described from shallow water, and Caulleryaspis Sendall & Salazar-Vallejo, 2013 includes one deep water species: C. gudmundssoni Sendall & Salazar-Vallejo, 2013 from Iceland. In Sternaspis Otto, 1821, the most speciose genus, most species were described from shallow water and only three thrive in deep water: S. maior Chamberlin, 1919 from the Gulf of California...

Papuadocus blodiwai gen. nov., sp. nov. (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Maeridae), a new bathyal species associated with sunken wood in the Bismarck Sea (Papua New Guinea).

A new species belonging to a new genus of Maeridae, Papuadocus blodiwai gen. nov., sp. nov., is described from bathyal bottoms of the Bismarck Sea (Papua New Guinea). This genus/species can be distinguished from most other known maerids by right and left maxillas 1 with asymmetrical palps and by gnathopod 2 not sexually dimorphic. Its closest relative is the genus Bathyceradocus also characteri...

Shewanella psychrophila sp. nov. and Shewanella piezotolerans sp. nov., isolated from west Pacific deep-sea sediment.

Two Shewanella-like bacterial strains, WP2(T) and WP3(T), which were isolated from west Pacific deep-sea sediment, were studied to determine their taxonomic position. Cells of the two bacteria were facultatively anaerobic, Gram-negative rods and motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Strain WP2(T) was psychrophilic, growing optimally at about 10-15 degrees C, whereas strain WP3(T) was psy...

Deep ocean species discovered

As human languages are increasingly dying out, the discovery of a new one is striking. Nigel Williams reports. The UN's atlas of endangered languages lists around 230 that have become extinct during the past 60 years. And it is now widely agreed that around 3,000 languages worldwide are endangered and 200 are critically endangered with fewer than 10 speakers. Even in Europe, Karaim, in western ...
